About Sakae Weaving, Ltd.
For years, Osaka’s Senshu area has had a history of cultivating the cotton, spinning and weaving industries, and even now the area is still known for manufacturing Izumi cotton, which is used in traditional clothing such as yukata, fabrics for medical purposes, and industrial-use materials.
Inheriting this tradition, Sakae Weaving was founded in 1961, and has cultivated simple but multi-purpose textiles while being attentive to details such as thread count and weaving methods to suit user needs. The company offers the only cloth in Japan with variable widths—5cm to 60cm, with possible 1cm intervals.
Sakae Weaving’s textiles are used in day-to-day situations; in yukata and tenugui towels, in food production and the medical field, and with a quality standard that does not allow even a single fibre to come free (supporting health and safety issues).

- Iwataro Hanatani (founder) starts a textile business in Sakai city, Osaka
- 1961
- Toshihiko Hanatani (2nd generation) establishes Sakae Weaving Ltd., producing mainly yukata fabric
- 1963
- Power loom installed
- 1976
- “Sakae Standards” textile manufacturing begins
- 1979
- 1st stage workshop expansion

- Automatic loom installed

- Partnership formed with a factory in China’s Nantong area

- Satoshi Hanatani (current president) assumes role of company head
