Kind by nature.
We think deeply about people and the earth in everything we make, from gauze to Japanese tenugui towels, baby products, and daily necessities.
For over 60 years, Sakae Weaving has been manufacturing basic fabrics for daily use.
Our products are created with natural materials and no waste, and made possible by our workshop, which is the only one in Japan with the ability to produce a wide range of width variations of single-breadth cloth.

Here at Sakae Weaving,
we make use of the history and techniques we’ve cultivated over the years to establish a form of craftsmanship everyone can enjoy.
We offer gentle handmade textile products that cushion the gentle changes that occur in our lives.

TEXTILE

Sakae Weaving’s craftsmanship is founded in the production of single-breadth fabrics that feature ‘selvedges’ (self-finished edges), that are made using our shuttlecock loom.

The selvedges form with the back and forth movement of the thread on the loom, and prevent the fabric edges from fraying easily.
The presence of the selvedges means the fabric can then be used as is, without any scissor work needed. Single-breadth cloth is used mainly for Japanese yukata (summer kimonos) and tenugui towels, and can be produced up to 60cm in width.

It’s a very supple material with an appearance that changes according to the materials, thread, dyeing, warping, and weave used.
At Sakae Weaving, a lower tension is used when weaving on the shuttlecock loom, creating a soft and flexible textural feel.
